BATON ROUGE - Traffic officials say I-10 West and I-110 South are back open after a wreck on the Mississippi River Bridge kept the roads closed for more than three hours Friday morning.

The closures went into effect at around 5 a.m. after three 18-wheelers and four cars crashed on the bridge. Two people were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Police expected the closure to remain effect until late morning, and the all lanes open announcement would not come until after 9 a.m. with the incident causing significant traffic delays for Friday commuters.

Congestion backed up all the way from the Mississippi River Bridge to the I-10/I-12 split on I-10 West as crews carried out vehicle recovery work.

As of 9 a.m., traffic officials expect the delays will be able to resolve themselves in time for the noon rush hour. Delays were still happening on I-110 North as it was backed up from North 22nd Street to US-190 due to the earlier closure.
