Huge illegal dumping investigation: House tossed into area river
SPRINGFIELD – Numerous state and local authorities are investigating how an entire house ended up dumped into the Tickfaw River.
Tuesday afternoon environmental officials had gathered along the Tickfaw off Perrin Ferry Road where the pieces of the home had been dumped. Authorities said someone demolished a home in Tangipahoa Parish, trucked it to Livingston where it ended up in the Tickfaw River.
At first, a source told WBRZ reporter Brett Buffington, a man claimed to have only left the torn down home on the side of the river and pieces of it “fell in.” But, an official report of the complaint by the Wildlife and Fisheries had a different reason from the source of the debris. The person dumping the debris told agents, he was trying to extend his property and "shore up" the land with the debris.
The man, identified as Lloyd Hutchinson, was given a ticket for littering.
Any cleanup will be arduous, sources said.
