Houses catch fire after lightning strikes
BATON ROUGE - Tuesday afternoon's storms sent firefighters scrambling across Baton Rouge to deal with three house fires caused by lightning strikes.
Crews worked lightning-caused fires on Twelve Oaks Avenue, Destrehan Drive, and Kenmore Avenue. All were reported shortly after 4 p.m. as storms rolled through the region.
On Kenmore, the neighbor of a house that burned said the thunder was so loud it shook his house.
"We heard a loud thunder clap and lightning," the man said. "[It] sounded like it was right next door." And, it was.
Video recorded by an eyewitness showed flames erupting out of the home shortly after it was hit.
No one was home at the time and firefighters helped carry out personal belongings that survived the flames. Watch the attached video clip of the fire.
