Hornets change name to New Orleans Pelicans
NEW ORLEANS - The Hornets confirmed what could be the worst-kept secret of 2013; they're changing their name to the New Orleans Pelicans.
The team made the announcement this afternoon in a nationally-streamed press conference.
Owner Tom Benson said in a promotional video it was the "perfect" symbol for Louisiana's pro basketball team. The team's colors also changed to reds, blues and golds with the rebranding.
The new team logo and uniforms will be put into play for the 2013-2014 NBA season.
