Hooper Road extension plan on track
CENTRAL- Plans to build a new bridge connecting East Baton Rouge Parish with Livingston Parish are on track, according to Central city leaders.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development revealed plans for the route connecting Central to the Watson area last week. A new bridge crossing the Amite River is part of the project.
Central Chief Administrative Officer David Barrow says the environmental study portion of the project is underway and should be completed within the year. Some major factors like deciding if the project will be a toll route have yet to be decided. There is also no decision on where the route will tie in with or cross Highway 16 near Watson.
Central leaders say extending Hooper will relieve traffic on Wax Road and Magnolia Bridge. Watson business owners say they expect more customers if people can make it home from jobs in Baton Rouge earlier in the day.
