Holiday Shipping Tips
BATON ROUGE - Christmas is less than two weeks away, which means it's crunch time at the office. Monday was the busiest shipping day of the year so far, but some say the worst is yet to come.
From Thanksgiving to New Years Day, the U.S. Postal Service is expecting 15.5 billion cards, letters and packages. That's nearly 3 million more than last year! Much of that increase can be attributed to online shopping.
Here are some important dates to keep in mind if you plan to ship any gifts this holiday season:
-December 15th: Last day to send letters, flats and small packages via air transportation
-December 18th: Last day to send Priority Mail Express
Wednesday is the busiest day for cards and letters, while Thursday is typically the busiest day for packages. People News 2 spoke to say they're trying to avoid the Post Office during the holidays.
"I try not to put anything in the mail because sometimes things don't get where they're supposed to go," says Erwin Bankston of Ponchatoula.
"The last thing I ordered was last week, and I'm still waiting on it to come in," explains Baton Rouge native Larry Collins. "I'm not worried because I'm sure everything will be delivered this week."
2une In's Rebecca Buchanan was LIVE at the Post Office this morning with more tips to make shipping holiday gifts less stressful.
