BATON ROUGE - Family and friends of a Baton Rouge man put in the hospital by a hit and run driver this weekend said he's improving, and they hope people with information about the incident will come forward.

Matt Tugwell was hit Saturday night as he was crossing Dalrymple near East State Street. His girlfriend, Ellen Odgen, told News 2 today they're all still in shock someone would hit him and then just leave him lying in the road.

"He's absolutely upset. You can see it in his face when he talks about it. It's just as unbelievable to him as it is to us," she said.

According to an eyewitness, the vehicle hit Tugwell on his side and flipped him into the air. They said he landed on the windshield of the car and rolled off the vehicle before the driver fled.

Police said today they got a tip a car believed to be involved in the incident was at a local repair shop. Detectives took possession of the car as part of the investigation.

Family and friends hope someone will come forward with more information. They said Tugwell is improving and could be moved out of intensive care before Tuesday.
