Hero general may run for Gov.

BATON ROUGE - Retired Lt. General Russel L. Honore could be making a run for governor of the state of Louisiana.

Honore is known as Hurricane Katrina's hero, for saving the day after the storm devastated the area and leadership failed.

"People didn't have food and water and he got it to them," said former New Orleans resident Beverly Coates. She moved to Baton Rouge after Katrina but remembers Honore's impact well. Coates says she would vote for Honore.

Honore looks at Louisiana and sees many things he'd like to fix.

"Nobody can like the poverty that we have. Nobody can like the state of our infrastructure," said Honore. "We live in the city of Baton Rouge that doesn't even have a loop around it. Hell, Lake Charles has a loop."

Wednesday, Honore told WBRZ News2 exclusively, "I'm thinking about [a run]. And, you're the first one to hear it."

He just published a book called, "Leadership In The New Normal."
