BATON ROUGE - When Entergy and DEMCO users add donations onto their bills, the money goes to struggling bill payers in their area.

Entergy just gave the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging $33,000 to help low income elderly or disabled Entergy users. Each customer is limited on the amount they can get every year, but retired school teacher Jeanette Bishop said it definitely helps.

"It just stresses you out when you don't know how you going to pay your bills and energy is something you have to have. They helped me with my energy twice. It was much needed, it was much needed then," Bishop said.

Low income Entergy users can sign up with The Power to Care to get assistance. Low income DEMCO users can sign up with the DEMCO Foundation.

The DEMCO Foundation has donated $4 million since it started in 1997.  All proceeds from the donations go to the energy users in need.
