Hakkens' La. foster parents talk exclusively to News 2
HAMMOND - The Louisiana foster parents of the two children allegedly kidnapped from Florida and taken to Cuba spoke exclusively to News 2 about the ordeal.
Liz and Tom took little Chase and Cole Hakken into their home last summer, after the boy's parents were arrested at a hotel. About a month after taking care of the kids, their biological father came knocking at their door with a gun. Liz called the police.
In 2013 the children ended up in Florida, in the custody of their grandmother. Joshua and Sharyn Hakken, the children's parents, are now charged with kidnapping for taking the kids from their grandma and sailing off to Cuba.
Liz and Tom followed the news very closely. Today, they feel safe because the Hakken's are in jail.
