Gun stores see more sales after double murder
GONZALES - A gun shop owner in Ascension Parish says a recent double murder is on the minds of most of his customers.
Irwin Marchand and stepson Doug Dooley were killed inside a home on Babin Road over the weekend. Irwin's wife, Shirley, survived the attack but she remains in critical condition. The victims' throats were slit. A safe containing a valuable coin collection was stolen.
Hebert says people shopping for guns and safes. The shop owner says violent crime is not common in Ascension Parish. He says that makes many people consider their safety options.
Detectives are still trying to determine if a safe recovered Monday in Livingston Parish is linked to the case. It is part of the evidence being examined at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
