Gubernatorial hopefuls to meet at forum
BATON ROUGE - The four announced candidates for governor, in their first campaign forum, were in agreement that the public has lost faith in the way Louisiana uses gasoline tax money that goes into a Transportation Trust Fund.
A primary target in Friday's forum: $60 million in trust fund money the candidates say was diverted to state police.
The forum Friday in Baton Rouge featured Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle, Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne and Sen. David Vitter - all Republicans, and state Rep. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat. All agreed that some or all of the $60 million should go back to the trust fund for road and bridge improvements.
The forum was sponsored by the American Council of Engineering Companies and it also included discussions on coastal protection.
