GSRI could get name change
BATON ROUGE- Innovation Park Drive is the name businesses leaders want on their letterhead, instead of GSRI Avenue.
The name change would affect the road west of Gardere Lane where many technology companies reside, including the Louisiana Business & Technology Center. The LBTC want to expand it's hold on the area and create what they're calling "LSU Innovation Park."
"We're looking at it from a positive economic stand point, you know, what would make someone want to locate here, you know, being attached to LSU research park is certainly a big advantage, having a prestigious address to where you're at Innovation Park Drive," said Charles D'Agostino, Executive Director at LBTC.
Not everyone is on board with the switch, though. GSRC, a company that rose out of the old company which the road was named for, wants to keep the name the same.
"We wanted to move back to this street because we got recognition from this street, people would call us and ask us to do projects because they would remember we were on GSRI and we did get business, we still get business, because of that recognition," said Suna Adam-Knaus, who works at GSRC.
GSRC says it would cost more than $90,000 to change their address.
The name change will go before the Planning Commission and ultimately be decided by the EBR Metro Council.
