Grant money would help Denham Springs Animal Shelter

DENHAM SPRINGS - A $50,000 grant would go a long way for repairs at the Denham Springs Animal Shelter.
City leaders plan to apply for the state grant in the coming weeks. Right now, the no-kill shelter relies heavily on donations and grants to get by each day. Every penny goes toward the animals, so it's not hard for workers to come up with a list of needed repairs.
"We definitely need new roofs, new roofs over the cat room, the laundry room, the off-exhibits, new fans...lots of fans, new fences. We need new everything," said Sharon Deason.
While the shelter waits for more money to roll in they plan to make do with what they have.
"It helps us as much as it does them. I mean you could be having a bad day, but these dogs just want you to love them," said Deason. "The dogs and cats, petting them, all we do is love them to pieces."
In the past, the shelter has used grant money to buy a new transport van and to build several isolation kennels for new dogs coming into the shelter.
