Gonzales man kills wife, tries to kill himself
GONZALES- A man in Ascension Parish is in the hospital, after deputies say he killed his wife, then tried to kill himself.
It happened just after midnight Thursday at their home on Roddy Road near the corner of Black Bayou Road in Gonzales.
Deputies say Gerardo Lua, 38, shot and killed his wife, Alejandra Orozco, 36, because the pair was having marital problems.
"It's scary that it happened right across the street from us, I mean this is a trailer, the walls are this thin, so yeah, it's definitely pretty scary, none of us even heard gunshots or anything," said Kate Dwane, a neighbor who lives nearby.
Deputies say the couple had been married for 20 years, but Orozco wanted a divorce and had already moved in with a new boyfriend. Neighbors think even after paramedics arrived, Lua continued to fight.
"They were going inside with the little stretcher thing, going to go get him, and then I went in my car, I was trying not to be too nosy, but I went in my car and got my phone charger, and the next time I looked up, he was in the ambulance, I could see his feet and the paramedic was screaming at him to stop spitting," said Dwane.
Lua is now in critical condition, if he survives, deputies are expected to charge him with the murder of his wife.
