Gas for Guns tomorrow in EBR
BATON ROUGE - The second "Gas for Guns" exchange in East Baton Rouge Parish is scheduled to begin Saturday morning.
People can anonymously drop off weapons at two churches in the city-parish between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and receive a gas card worth between $50 and $300 depending on the type of weapon.
Last year, authorities collected 262 weapons, including a dozen assault-style weapons according to the Mayor-President's office.
"We don't believe that thugs are gonna come in off the street and give us their guns, that's not what this program is designed for," said District Attorney Hillar Moore, "it's designed for those weapons that are left unattended and for parents, grandparents to bring these guns to us."
During the exchange program, any functional pistol or revolver smaller than .38 caliber can be exchanged for a $50 gas coupon. Pistols and revolvers that are .38 caliber or greater can be swapped for $100 in gas coupons. Gas coupons worth $300 will be given for each assault-style rifle.
Qualifying guns can be exchanged at the following two churches on November 19th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.:
• Living Faith Christian Center, 6375 Winbourne Avenue
• Glen Oaks Baptist Church, 7200 Maplewood Drive
