Friends say arrested mother was a responsible parent
BATON ROUGE - Police arrested the mother of an infant girl who drowned in a bathtub in suspicion of negligent homicide.
Sgt. Don Kelly said Lashay Bradley, 22, left her 11-month-old daughter unattended in a bathtub with the water running for an unknown amount of time.
When she returned, the child had apparently slipped under the water and was unresponsive. The girl was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.
"The paramedics were running out with the baby and she was running behind her and I asked her what happened and she just kept screaming 'Lailah, Lailah!" said Tineisha Mahoney, a friend of the family.
Mahoney says Bradley was a good mother and always did what was best for her four children.
"She put those kids before anything, you would see them dressed from head to toe and they're not going nowhere," said Mahoney.
"What I observed and what I learned over the two years that I've lived here is that she's a very attentive mother," said Bridgette Youngblood, who lives nearby.
Bradley was booked into the parish jail in suspicion of negligent homicide.
