Four governors convene, Edwards talks baby

BATON ROUGE- All four living former Louisiana Governors held a panel discussion on the state's politics at LSU's Business Education Complex.

Governors Edwin Edwards, Buddy Roemer, Mike Foster and Kathleen Blanco, discussed political topics like taxes, Medicaid, and education.

"Often the best and the brightest have to go somewhere else to get a job, we need to work together and find out what other states have done so that we can do the same," said Roemer, discussing the state's brain drain.

"Our elementary and secondary teachers are stifled, and you know, it's very unfair to ask more of teachers and not be compensating them for what they're asked to do," said Blanco, who thinks a better focus on education would help the state.

Mike Foster took part in the panel, but stopped short of criticizing the current government.

"No, I don't, I do very little criticizing, because if you're not in the chair, you've got no business criticizing," said Foster.

Edwin Edwards got a bit more attention, mainly because his pregnant wife, Trina, was absent from the luncheon.

"Trina is now five months pregnant, we're expecting a little boy, he's going to be named Eli, she's having some difficulty, but bearing up and we're looking forward to a beautiful healthy child," said Edwards.
