Flood zone residents get their annual warning
BUTTE LAROSE - Residents in the Morganza Floodway got their flood warning letters from the Army Corps of Engineers, but many say they aren't worried.
Many people in the floodway said they got out before the last big flood, almost three years ago.
This year they say they're staying put. The National Weather Service said the possibility of flooding for that area is average this spring. For now, the water is below the flood stage crest.
"We're not worried this year because the last flood they predicted a 28-foot crest and it came to 23.1 which is right at about the hurricane fence. Unless it comes higher than that we're not going to worry about it," said Cindy Menard.
Menard said she will keep an eye on how fast the snow is melting up north, and evacuate if needed, but she expects to stay home.
