Firefighters prepare tribute for fallen soldier
INDEPENDENCE - Firefighters in Independence prepared today to honor a fallen soldier killed in action recently with a special tribute.
The Defense Department said Spc. Christopher R. Drake, 20, of Tickfaw was killed Sunday in Bagram, Afghanistan when his vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.
Today, members of the Independence Fire Department took time to clean and polish their trucks for a planned funeral procession in which they'll carry his casket. Drake was a 2011 graduate of Independence High School.
Firemen at the station said it's their way of thanking Drake for his service.
"It's only the best we can do for him, show him how much we greatly appreciate it," said firemen Chris McKinney.
Details for Drake's funeral services are still pending.
