Festival of Lights could cost taxpayers $40,000

BATON ROUGE- The city of Baton Rouge is preparing for the Festival of Lights, the city's annual Christmas event. But the price tag for the event could cost taxpayers thousands.

The Metro Council will vote whether or not to approve a $40,000 contract with Christmas Depot to hang lights along with decorations for the event.

The city has partnered up with the company before to help decorate for the festival, but this year the contract would have them hanging decor for the entire event.

The Department of Public Works says this will save the city money.

"We used to do some of the labor in-house and contract out, buy some lights from here and there, and we found this to be more economical option," said David Guillory.

The festival will be held on Dec. 6 in downtown Baton Rouge.
