Feliciana Parishes keeping eyes on wet weather

ST. FRANCISVILLE - East and West Feliciana Parishes are rebounding from high water after several inches of rain in a short time Monday.

"Yesterday that stream was so high and so swirling that you could go white water rafting, I mean right down the hill," said resident Donna MacKinnon. "We were amazed. We were supposed to be working in the office, and everybody was standing at the windows watching it. All of our patients, everybody was looking outside the window. It was really a neat site."

West Feliciana Parish leaders shut down all low-water bridges in the area after flooding became an issue. The Office of Emergency Preparedness for the parish doesn't see that happening again this week, even with rain in the forecast. Instead, freezing rain could become a threat.

"The forecast as it stands now is calling for the possibility of some freezing rain and sleet in the area early Thursday morning, so we're watching that, talking to the National Weather Service and we're keeping up with that forecast as well," said OEP Director Brian Spillman.

Spillman says multiple agencies will check on bridges throughout the parish when the weather turns.
