Farmers cash in on Pumpkinmania
BATON ROUGE - Pumpkinmania hit the United States again this year. It has farmers across the country are seeing dollar signs.
In addition to regular Halloween decorating, the increase in sales is due in part to the popularity of pumpkin spice, as well as pumpkin seeds, brittle and more. It's led to a 34% percent increase in sales for pumpkin farmers over the last five years.
Sales of pumpkin flavored products jumped 14% in 2013. Some farmers expect a similar spike this year.
