Family of shooting victim considers retaliation

BATON ROUGE - Hours after the murder of one of their relatives, family members of 36-year-old Deon Kinchen chased a group of men they believed to be the shooters.

Kinchen was found shot dead in a parking lot at the corner of Convention Street and North 12th around 1:30am Tuesday morning. His sister arrived to the scene an hour later and said he had been shot five times.

The family wanted to meet News 2 at the scene to tell Kinchen's life story. Minutes after arriving, five people took off down the street chasing who they said killed their brother.

One man screamed, "c'mon man, with that gun." And a woman yelled, "He's gonna kill him. He's gonna kill him. Oh lord Jesus. Call 911. Call the police. He's gonna kill him."

Eventually, no one was shot, and the group returned to their cars and left. We met back up with them at another house a short time later. Kinchen's older brother, Clarence, was still contemplating retaliation.

"I love my brother and justice gonna be done for him. I'm gonna make sure of it. If the police don't do it, I'm gonna do it," Kinchen said.

In a news release, police said they have no suspects or a motive, yet the family believes they know exactly who did it.
