Facing recall, Lacombe resigns council seat
GONZALES - Gary Lacombe resigned Tuesday from the Gonzales City Council, in the face of a dedicated recall effort which successfully petitioned for a special election to remove him from office.
Lacombe submitted his resignation to the Secretary of State's Office Tuesday afternoon.
Lacombe is one of two councilmen, including Timothy Vessel, targeted by a group called Save Gonzales because of votes against zoning issues which cost the city job opportunities. They were also criticized along with Terance Irvin for slashing funding to the police department from the city's budget.
Early voting is already underway for the Dec. 6 election in which Vessel could still be recalled. The Secretary of State's Office said the Gonzales council has until Dec. 15 to appoint someone to fill Lacombe's seat, and a special election will have to be scheduled to fill out the rest of the term.
