PRAIRIEVILLE - A near two-decade old love story and mystery unraveled thanks to Facebook and some curiosity this month.
After noticing old graffiti on the eastbound-facing side of the Bluff Road overpass above I-10, some friends set out on a quest to find out the identities of the two people etched in love. A heart separates names Nick and Cassie, seemingly messaging to drivers the pair were in love when the message was written.
Last week, Dillon Lejeune posted a picture of the bridge and a message on Facebook: "I'm on a mission. [Friends and I wonder]...if Nick still Hearts Cassie. We are on the mission of getting this shared around to see if the real Nick and Cassie still heart each other!!" The post was shared almost 2,000 times and received a list of responses and answers.
According to messengers, Nick and Cassie were high school sweethearts but eventually went their separate ways after graduation. The message was written in 1999, according to a post from Nick's mom. Now, Nick has a daughter and Cassie is married with two children. Facebook biographies of the Nick and Cassie tagged in the thread suggest Nick attended college in Texas and Cassie went to Georgetown and now works as a nurse on the Northshore of New Orleans.
Facebook users who claim to be friends of the one-time couple posted Nick and Cassie remain friends and laughed at the post.
"I'm just glad I get to finally find out what happened to Nick and Cassie because every time I pass this I wonder," one poster added to the thread.
