EXCLUSIVE: mom hopes tough love will turn hoarder son around

NATALBANY- A grandmother is promising to take better care of her grandchildren since her son and his girlfriend were arrested when five children were found in a hoarder's paradise.

"I've been doing a lot of crying and a lot of praying," Tammy May told WBRZ News 2 in an exclusive interview Tuesday evening.

May's son, Yance, and his girlfriend Taylor Kleinpeter, face a list of charges ranging from drug possession to child endangerment. Deputies arrested them after arriving at the house to serve a warrant for an outstanding theft charge and stumbled on the filth.

Pictures from inside show rooms filled with trash and standing water. There was also drugs, used syringes, and a stolen gun.

"It makes me sick to know that Taylor and Yance would live like that," May said.

She believes her son is down on his luck since his wife died three years ago and has not been able to stay out of rehab.

"It's been rough since 2010 when the mother of the other four children died. I think that played a big role in my son's problems."

May hopes to get custody of the children and help them recover. But, she's not looking to give a free ride to her son. She said, "once they get the rehab that they need I think they'll be fine but they have a long road to go now."

She told WBRZ News 2, she does not plan to bail her son out of jail.

"They're pretty good people, they just need help, they have a real bad problem with drugs and they need help, bad," she added.
