Equipment, cash stolen from contractor in brazen theft

BATON ROUGE- A pistol, some tools and about $700 in cash was the take for two thieves on a densely populated street Tuesday morning, according to the victim.

Contractor Bert Koerin said he and his crew had just began work inside an apartment in the Sherwood Meadows neighborhood of Baton Rouge.

"The truck was left unattended for just a few short minutes," he said.

Koerin estimates it happened around 8:30 in the morning.

Surveillance video from the apartment shows a man casing out the job site before walking off with a leaf blower from the Koerin's tow trailer. The man then quickly returned for more loot while a woman waited for him in an SUV parked along the street.

"He did it thirty feet from us, just that quick," Koerin said.

The contractor was less than impressed by the police response, saying they wouldn't take any finger prints. He said police told him it wasn't necessary and they would review the surveillance video in a week or two.

A spokesperson for Baton Rouge Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.
