Elderly couple victims of violent attack

BATON ROUGE - An elderly couple was held up in their apartment Wednesday morning and are now out hundreds of dollars.

Adene Erron, 81, and Becky Smarr, 71, said they feel violated and the whole incident has left them shaken.

"The pistol, pointing right between my eyes," said Erron.

The couple says the crook pointed a gun at them and fired a shot, but missed. The bullet went through their glass sliding door and through an air conditioning unit. The crook ran away with their stash of change, hundreds of dollars to buy Christmas presents.

It happened in the 1200 block of Ardenwood Drive in Baton Rouge around 4:30 Wednesday morning.

The couple says they were minutes from waking up and didn't hear a thing until the robbery was in process.

"How he got in here without me knowing, lord only knows," said Smarr.

The couple says the man came in through the front door and went through the kitchen, grabbing money off the floor, table and in a dresser drawer. That's when Erron says he confronted the intruder.

"He was standing right here, with his gun," said Erron.

"He shot at him," said Smarr. "Thank God he missed him, but he shot at him."

In addition to the money, the man got away with their identification and insurance cards. The couple says they plan on moving because of the incident.

At the time of this post, police could not be reached about any possible suspects.
