Edwin Edwards still loves politics, talks about Jindal as VP
GONZALES- The talk here Tuesday night was about politics.
Some people were talking about Gov. Bobby Jindal being on a short list of candidates for Vice President, others about former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards who was signing books at the local library.
"The Lord sent me some groceries, and I got the devil to pay for it," Edwards told the crowd.
Even though he was there signing copies of a book about his life, he didn't shy away from advice about the current political climate.
"I envy him because he's the only politician I've ever known who would do something that would please both his friends and his detractors. His friends will be happy if he gets it. His detractors will be happier so it works for everybody," Edwards said about Jindal and the Republican Vice Presidential candidacy.
For Edwards' fans, it was mixed.
"I'd like him to be home a little more but I think he is still getting the job done," said Guy Signorino.
Anna Daigle disagreed,"I don't think he's happy with his job in Louisiana because he wouldn't be doing the things that he is doing."
Gov. Jindal's Office responded, through a spokesperson: "We have been clear all along that we would have no comment at any time on this process. That will be the same answer you will get from me every time it's asked."One thing's for sure: Edwin Edwards still loves politics.
When asked about being governor again, if that was ever possible, Edwards responded "that would be better for Louisiana and better for me, but I don't think that's going to happen."
