EBT cards declined
BATON ROUGE - A computer glitch with the contracted company that operates the EBT cards in Louisiana caused thousands to go without benefits Saturday.
A spokeswoman for the Xerox company confirmed via email to the Associated Press Saturday afternoon that some EBT systems are experiencing temporary connectivity issues. She said technical staff is addressing the issue and expects the system to be restored soon.
Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services says, "The company that maintains SNAP EBT card services for the state of Louisiana is currently experiencing multi-state service problems. Retail SNAP transactions are impacted, but the company is working quickly to restore service. This issue is temporary and not related to the federal government shutdown."
Slowly Saturday evening some stores have reported they were able to take the cards with a limit to how much money can be spent.
