EBRSO cleaning up apartment complexes
BATON ROUGE - Arrests are adding up after deputies in East Baton Rouge Parish raided a handful of apartment complexes.
In the past month, deputies made more than 20 arrests during warrant roundups at apartment complexes. Thirteen of those arrests came June 2 at the St. Jean Apartments off South Harrell's Ferry Road. Charges range from traffic violations and drug possession.
EBRSO says it targets areas of the parish with a large number of outstanding warrants. Also, apartment complexes can request for a warrant sweep. Residents who live in the St. Jean Apartments say they feel safer knowing that deputies are keeping an eye on their neighborhood.
"I find it's a good thing, and it will make residents here feel more comfortable knowing that the sheriff's department has taken this initiative to do this," said one resident. "If you know there's illegal activity is going on and the sheriff's department comes and arrests those persons, well then of course you feel you can breathe better now. You can sleep better now."
Deputies also did warrant roundups in May at Edgewood Apartments off Coursey Boulevard and Tanglewood Apartments on Hooper Road. They've been doing these types of roundups at apartments since 2008.
