EBR school board funds Istrouma High renovations

BATON ROUGE - Over a half-million dollars is making renovations at Istrouma High School possible.

The East Baton Rouge Parish school board approved $586,000 in repairs so that contractors can refurbish the entire second floor of the school.

Everything from the ceilings to the floors will be replaced.

The first floor of the high school was renovated last summer. The second floor will look exactly the same and is slated to be renovated this for this summer.

Teachers say the new environment should motivate students.

"Students take pride their school and I think that it will encourage them to do better during the school days," said Communications Director Chris Trahan.

Renovations were postponed two months ago because some board members worried the school could be taken over by the state.

They ultimately voted for the renovations because, regardless of who runs it, it still needs to be done.

Istrouma High is one of more than a dozen schools in Baton Rouge that will be renovated this summer.

Scottlandville Elementary is also one of those schools. It will be converted into a middle school.

Construction is scheduled to be complete by the start of the 2012-2013 school year
