EBR Beyond Bricks

BATON ROUGE - Education is a top priority this week with Catholic Schools Week and School Choice Week. Today, Beyond Bricks EBR will also begin a community conversation about public schools.

The purpose of the program is to recharge the public school system and make it something to be proud of. Organizers believe it will take the entire community to make it happen.

Beyond Bricks EBR has scheduled multiple meetings called "Listening Sessions" to get as many people involved in the conversation as possible. They want to stress they're mostly there to listen and hear every voice at the table.

13 sessions are scheduled throughout the district beginning today. Everyone is invited to participate, regardless of their connection to the school district.

"What people have to realize is, quit judging the district by what it has endured in the past, and start looking at what it could be," East Baton Rouge Superintendent Bernard Taylor demands.

"Hopefully it won't be a small step, but a medium step in the right direction for getting the community back involved in public education," Baton Rouge's Director of Gifted and Talented Students Anna Fogle says.

There are three meetings this week, beginning with one today (Wednesday) at 12:30 p.m. BREC Cadillac St. Park, followed by another Thursday at Scotlandville High beginning at 6 p.m. If you can't make the meetings during the week, there's also on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. At the Bluebonnet Library.
