EBR almost back to normal after Isaac

BATON ROUGE - Department of Public Works spokespeople say they are two weeks away from completely picking up woody debris from Hurricane Isaac.

Today DPW began their second pass through East Baton Rouge Parish, picking up leftover piles of branches and vegetative debris.

Allied Waste is picking up bags full of debris, and will continue picking up the bags on normal garbage routes.

The rainy weather hurt debris pickup over the weekend, but crews say they are on schedule to finish pickup by the middle of October.

"It's a tedious process," said DPW Environmental Engineer Bob Hearn. "There's not a lot out there, we hope to finish in two weeks."

DPW is about 95 percent complete with Hurricane Isaac cleanup. Crews anticipate they will exceed their prediction of 200,000 cubic yards of debris.

If you live on a street that has not been tended to, call 311 to request a pickup.
