Dr. Stephens on outpatient surgery safety checks
BATON ROUGE - Cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Stephens joined us on News 2 at 4 Thursday afternoon to talk about safety precautions every patient should take before having an outpatient surgical procedure.
Dr. Stephens says there are a few easy steps to make sure there will be no risks involved during surgery. First he advises that a patient check that the surgeon is certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties. He then says to make sure the medical facility is accredited with official medical accreditation organizations and receive frequent peer reviews. D. Stephens suggests the facility has an arrangement with a hospital in close proximity for emergencies and to check to make sure the surgeon has privileges at the transferring hospital for emergencies.
