DOTD: Unknown how Isaac affected I-10 expansion schedule

BATON ROUGE - The Department of Transportation and Development is working with the contractors to determine how Hurricane Isaac affected the completion date of the I-10 widening in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Work stopped from Aug. 27 to Sept. 5 due to the storm. Before that another delay happened overnight Aug. 22 and into the next day due to an overturned 18-wheeler.

The most recent news release sent from DOTD indicates a "mid-2013" completion date of I-10 between the I-10/12 split and Highland Road.

Three years ago, the project was slated to wrap in November of last year. DOTD fired the first contractor, Austin Bridge and Road, for falling too far behind and picked Boh Brothers to finish the job.

It was then announced the widening would be complete in January 2013. Months ago that changed to "early 2013," and now to "mid 2013."

The state said there's still a lot of work to be done, but construction is moving along as planned.

Weather continues to be the major delay, and DOTD said it could take some time to iron out a firm completion date or month.
