DOTD putting temporary signal at deadly intersection
BATON ROUGE - Transportation officials announced today a temporary signal would be installed at an intersection where three people have died from wrecks in the past year.
The signal would cover the intersection of La. 1 and Sugar Plantation Parkway in Addis. DOTD Secretary Sherri H. LeBas said they are already planning to build a J-turn and frontage road to make it safer for people coming out of the Sugar Mill Plantation subdivision.
"We are committed to balancing the needs of the Sugar Mill Plantation subdivision with those of the La 1 corridor and a temporary signal provides an interim solution until the frontage roads and J-turn are constructed," she said.
LeBas also said DOTD started an in-depth study of traffic flow along the La. 1 corridor to see what else could be done to make it easier and safer to travel in that area.
Residents of that subdivision scheduled a meeting for later tonight to discuss the situation. News 2's Kristy Davis will have their reaction to DOTD's announcement tonight on News 2 at 10.
