Ditch the 'turkey neck' with Slim Lipo laser surgery
BATON ROUGE - Cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Z visited News 2 at 4 on Monday to talk about a minimally invasive procedure that has helped some of her patients ditch the less than glamorous look of excess skin or fat underneath their chins.
That's right. With the procedure, Dr. Z says you can ditch the "turkey neck" in time for Thanksgiving and only be out of action for a day. The procedure she described on the 4 p.m. broadcast is called Slim Lipo, and it uses lasers to accomplish results that would not be possible with more traditional liposuction techniques.
The dermatologist said cases vary, but if she sees a patient who has just a small amount of unwanted fat or excess skin hanging on their neck area, she can use the Slim Lipo procedure to bring back the youthful appearance of the patient's jaw line.
Slim Lipo only requires an incision that measures roughly a quarter inch or less. Dr. Z then inserts a laser fiber that operates at two different wavelengths. One of the wavelengths melts fat like butter and the other one works to tighten skin. It's a minimally invasive technique which means recovery time is very short, and the only major aftercare involves wearing a small strap around the procedure site. This particular technique doesn't even involve suction as the melted fat drains out of the incision on its own.
Dr. Z says the results of Slim Lipo last for years. While age will eventually catch up with you, she says the technique is an easy way to get your neck area to appear more youthful without missing weeks of work to recuperate.
