BATON ROUGE - Some health experts say they haven't seen a flu outbreak like this in over a decade, and as of now there's no clear end in sight.

Calls for appointments are pouring in to Dr. Lee Montgomery's Baton Rouge office, and they're all with the same complaint.

"What I keep hearing over and over again is ‘I've been beaten with a baseball bat,'" says Dr. Montgomery.

The flu has certainly hit Baton Rouge and it's spreading. That's why Zane Brown decided to come in and get the flu shot before it's too late.

"When you see people you work with every day getting the flu it just kind of magnifies," says Brown.

If it's caught within the first two days a doctor can prescribe Tamiflu, which can slow the spread of the flu. But it's not cheap, usually more than $100 per dose. That's why Dr. Montgomery stresses the flu shot is your best weapon.

"The easiest and most cost effective way to protect yourself is get the flu shot," Montgomery said. "The flu shot is the CDC'S best guess on what flu is going to be spreading the next year. They don't always get it right. This year they did a good job."
