BATON ROUGE- It could take a few days before a man accused of abducting his ex-girlfriend returns to Louisiana after being caught in Mississippi.

East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's deputies said early Monday morning, Jeremiah Rodriguez, 34, broke into his girlfriend's house on Stafford Drive. He held the woman, identified as Viscaacuba James, 33, three children and two cousins at gunpoint, deputies said, until Monday afternoon when he left with James.

Deputies received information that the pair were in Slidell and eventually were traced to Gulfport, Mississippi, where Rodriguez was stopped by police, detained and James was rescued. Rodriguez was apprehended without putting up a fight, deputies said.
Rodriguez faces aggravated burglary, false imprisonment and kidnapping charges.

Deputies said they worked with the FBI and Gulfport Police to find Rodriguez and recover James.

Authorities have been called to the home on Stafford twice before related to issues between James and Rodriguez. In January, Rodriguez was arrested on battery and drug charges after neighbors called deputies and said Rodriguez beat the woman. Rodriguez said the pair were arguing over infidelity, but he never touched her. He said neighbors couldn't know what happened with the argument because he shut the door before he did anything, an arrest document reported.

Later, deputies were called to the location again when Rodriguez refused to leave but he was gone by the time they showed up.
