Deputy fired after fleeing police in Corvette, jailed for DWI

BATON ROUGE - An East Baton Rouge Parish deputy in training fired after he was accused of driving while intoxicated will move to a non-profit's high profile case list. Mothers Against Drunk Driving said it will follow the case from arraignment through conviction to make sure it's fair.

"We want him to be given the same rules and guideline as any other ordinary citizen being charged with a DWI," MADD's Valerie Cox said.

Over the weekend, an EBRSO deputy-in-training, Jeremiah Williams, was fired after he was arrested for allegedly leading law enforcement on a chase while intoxicated.

On Sunday, police say an officer noticed a black 2006 Chevrolet Corvette at a red light in front of him on Plank Road just after 2 a.m. When the light turned green the car sped off, according to the arrest report.

The BRPD officer tried to pull over the speeding car, but it would not stop for police. The Corvette turned onto Cadillac Street and continued onto Velie Street where the driver ran through multiple stop signs.

The car eventually came to a stop on Hidden Garden Avenue and the driver was taken into custody. The driver was identified as Jeremiah Williams. According to the arrest report, Williams showed signs of being intoxicated. He later registered a .118 on the breath alcohol test.

Meanwhile, criminologists are praising the work of the Baton Rouge Police Department that led to Jeremiah Williams' arrest.

"It looks like the Baton Rouge Police Department and Chief Paul is not only going to hold his officers accountable, but other officers and agencies or deputies as well," BRCC Criminal Justice Professor Paul Guidry said. "That will resonate within the community that no one is above the law including those there to enforce the law."

Williams was hired by the EBRSO in December 2017 and had been in the Field Training Officer Program. According to a release, he has been fired following his arrest.
