Dead home invader had rap sheet
BATON ROUGE - According to 19th Judicial Court records, the man who was shot and killed during a home invasion Friday had numerous run-ins with the law and had been charged with breaking into homes before.
A homeowner on Woodhaven St. in the Broadmoore area of Baton Rouge shot James Boyette, 36, around noon, a police spokesperson said. The man told officers he heard Boyette breaking in through a back window and confronted him in a bedroom.
Boyette was shot three times and died later due to his injuries.
Court records show Boyette was charged with burglary in 2003; convicted and served three years in prison for possession of stolen things in 2008; and had been arrested for several other drug charges and theft.
Boyette's home was about a mile away from the home he was shot.
The homeowner does not face charges.
