Crime trumps talk of EBR Mayor-President race
BATON ROUGE- East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor Pro Tem Mike Walker tells News 2 he is running for Mayor-President in November.
Walker has been on the council for 12 years. Current Mayor-President Kip Holden is seeking his third term in office. At least two Baton Rouge businessmen also say they're stepping into the race.
Walker says his campaign priorities are crime, small business development and strengthening relationships among city leaders, as well as other leaders. In reference to crime, he says the money spent on fighting it is spent in the wrong places.
But pastors of churches in crime-heavy communities say money isn't the only solution to the problem.
Kip Holden was not available for comment on this story Tuesday. Walker will announce his candidacy publicly Wednesday.
