Councilman wants investigation into Port Allen mayor

PORT ALLEN - Councilman Hugh Riviere wants a thorough investigation into Mayor Deedy Slaughter. He's pushing for that at a meeting tonight.

It stems from a series of News 2 reports that showed she billed taxpayers 2,400 dollars for her trip to Washington D.C. for the President's inauguration where no official city business was conducted, gave herself a 20,000 dollar raise and appointed her brother-in-law, Ralph Slaughter, as her Chief of Staff.

"I'm tired of it," Hugh Riviere said.  "It's a shame this town is going through what we're going through."

Riviere believes, if the Mayor didn't do anything wrong, she should welcome an investigators into her office.

'It's obvious to me the whole situation is escalating," Riviere said.  "I don't think we will be able to resolve it."

News 2 reached out to Slaughter.  She sped away from her car and did not talk to us.

The full council is taking up the investigation issue at tonight's meeting.
