Council introduces sales tax pledge for Juban Crossing

Related Story

LIVINGSTON - Parish council introduced and approved a resolution of 3/4 of 1 percent sales tax pledge for the future Juban Crossing Development.

The money would be used on roads and infrastructure and come from an Economic Development District, or TIF District.

Developers of the long-delayed shopping center, did not get what they wanted, when Governor Bobby Jindal, vetoed a similar state proposal, twice.

The council discussed at length, the benefits of the shopping district, but not all council members agree.

"What is that over 30 years? Almost 300 million that we can't put back into our road system," said Councilman Chance Parent.

The 460-acre development could provide 2500 jobs.

"People in this parish want retail," said Councilman Marshall Harris. "People want to be able to come here and shop, and do this."

The council will bring the tax to a vote at their meeting, next month.
