BATON ROUGE - Mardi Gras is celebrated in Many different ways throughout Louisiana. Whether it's chasing chickens or riding floats, people say it's great for the community to come together and celebrate the season.

The same can be said about St. Thomas More Catholic School in Baton Rouge. Their Fat Tuesday celebration is a great way to teach students about the holiday and the Lenten season.

"It's a big, big tradition," Director of Pre-School Pam Faciane told News 2's Kylie Dixon. "We've carried it on for over 25 years, and the kids can't wait to make their floats."

Students from Pre-K through 3rd Grade know how to throw a Mardi Gras party. With no shortage of beads, family and friends crowd around the gym the check-out the best homemade floats. This year's Krewe of St. Thomas More featured everything from Minions to LSU cheerleaders to the gang from 'Frozen'.

But the celebration is about more than throws. It's a reminder of the reason for the Carnival season.

"It's the way we kick-off Lent with all the children," Faciane explains. "It's teaching them about our Catholic, but also about the school community."

If you want to see your school featured, contact Kylie Dixon via email (kdixon@wbrz.com) or phone (336-2392). She's currently looking for outstanding seniors across the area.
