Convicted bus driver could still drive
NEW ROADS- John Cline, a Pointe Coupee Justice of the Peace, who also drives school buses for the parish, was sentenced to 30 days in jail alongside a five year suspended sentence for stealing from a Livonia grocery store in 2011.
Cline's attorney filed an appeal immediately after the ruling, leading the judge to suspend the execution of his sentence, until the appeal is heard.
That's why Cline could still be driving buses when school starts.
Linda D'Amico, Pointe Coupee Parish Superintendent, told News 2, the school district's attorney has advised it to not fire Cline, until he's exhausted his appeals, though school policy allows for termination of an employee who is convicted of a felony.
Until the final word on his sentence is decided, Cline could be allowed to drive students to school, despite his felony conviction.
Cline is still listed as a Justice of the Peace, but can't perform any of the position's duties.
