Concerns mount over Lee Drive detour
BATON ROUGE - There's one problem with the suggested detour for drivers diverted from the construction on Lee Drive: Stanford Avenue hasn't had pavement since March.
Ty Messina lives on Stanford, and is concerned that his precarious daily task of backing up onto Stanford to get out of his driveway will be even worse with extra traffic.
"Adding what is the traffic that is on Lee and College, I just can't imagine it being anything pleasant, "said Messina. "It's something that you want to avoid, and something that I'm not looking forward to dealing with on a daily basis."
Luckily for Messina, the potential headache could be short-lived. The Department of Public Works says Stanford, which is also subject to lane closures as part of a road rehabilitation project, should be re-paved by the end of July.
"These are obviously two very large projects that we want to get done before school starts again, so they did overlap," said DPW Director David Guillory.
The detour on Stanford will be necessary when Lee Drive between Boone Avenue and Bennett Drive is fully closed July 18 through July 22.
