Community turns out to honor fallen soldier
DENHAM SPRINGS - People crowded a National Guard facility and lined highways from there to Livingston Parish today to pay their respects to a fallen soldier from Tickfaw.
A chartered flight delivered the body of Spc. Chris Drake to the Louisiana Army National Guard's Aviation Facility, where it was met by his family and hundreds of supporters.
The Department of Defense said Drake was killed on May 26 when he was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade while driving a truck in Afghanistan.
Veterans, family, and community members stood all morning and waved flags along highways between the airport and funeral home in Denham Springs where Drake's remains were delivered. His funeral is planned for Monday.
